ɫ��APP�� Grad Student Named New Student Regent

The University of California Board of Regents today (July 16) appointed ɫ��APP�� graduate student Miguel Craven as the 2026-27 student regent. Craven will serve from July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026 as student regent-designate. He will have voting privileges when his one-year term as student regent begins on July 1, 2026.

When conversations about the University of California happen at the highest levels, ɫ��APP�� employee Mayté Frías is there, sharing the staff perspective.

Frías spent the past year as staff advisor-designate to the UC Board of Regents, serving on committees related to finance, national labs and more, and this month started her one-year term as the full staff advisor, including time on committees related to public engagement, academic and student affairs, and more.

She doesn’t have a vote in Regents’ decisions, but has a seat at the table to weigh in on all issues.

Charles Melton ’08 Named UC Alumni Regent

Charles Melton, a University of California, Davis, alum and public policy leader, has been appointed to serve on the UC Board of Regents, representing more than 2 million graduates worldwide.

Governor Newsom Names 4 New Regents

The UC Board of Regents last week issued guidance for the reopening of university campuses and made a decision to suspend until fall 2024 the use of the standardized test requirement for freshman applicants.

REGENTS: 4 Appointments and Next Staff Advisor-Designate

Founded in 1908 as the University Farm, ɫ��APP�� did not have a chancellor until 1958. The regents had appointed Stanley B. Freeborn as provost in 1952, and changed his title to chancellor in 1958.
